A significant drug bust has taken place off the coast of Newquay in Cornwall, as a fishing boat was found to be carrying around a tonne of cocaine. The National Crime Agency (NCA) reported that Border Force officers halted the vessel and discovered the massive drug cache on board. Following the interception on Friday afternoon, four individuals were arrested on suspicion of importing class A drugs.
The NCA revealed that approximately one tonne of cocaine was seized, leading to the arrests of the men who were then taken into police custody for questioning by NCA investigators. Derek Evans, NCA branch commander, emphasized the importance of this seizure, stating that it will deal a significant blow to the organised crime group behind the drug importation attempt. Evans highlighted the danger posed by the cocaine, noting that its distribution would have fueled county lines operations, serious violence, and knife crimes.
The successful joint operation involving the NCA, Border Force, and the Joint Maritime Security Centre has effectively removed this harmful consignment from the criminal market. The NCA’s investigation into this drug smuggling case continues as authorities work to prevent further illegal activities and keep communities safe from drug-related harm.
