In her interview, Ms. Morgan acknowledged the challenges of implementing the 20mph policy. She highlighted that while there is a consensus around the lower speed limit in areas such as schools, playgrounds, and hospitals, there are nuances to consider for through-roads in built-up areas. She also stressed that some local authorities utilised the flexibility within the system more than others, leading to variations in the application of the policy across different regions.
The First Minister emphasised the importance of local authorities responding to the concerns raised by their communities regarding the 20mph policy. She indicated that clarifying guidance for councils and ensuring they understand the flexibility within the system are key priorities moving forward. Ms. Morgan also underscored the need to focus on delivering priorities that matter most to the public, particularly in critical sectors like healthcare.
Speaking about the challenges facing the Welsh NHS, Ms. Morgan recognised the significant work needed to address issues such as waiting lists within the healthcare system. With less than 20 months before the next Senedd election, she highlighted the importance of setting clear priorities and focusing on deliverable goals within that timeframe, acknowledging that not all issues can be resolved immediately.
Despite the complexities involved in improving healthcare services, the First Minister expressed optimism about driving faster improvements in the NHS and meeting the needs of the population.
