British Gas, OVO, Octopus and other customers have received a warning that their kettle usage could lead to an increase of £144 on their energy bills, according to Wales Online. The new £1,771 energy price cap set by Ofgem may result in households seeing a minimum extra cost of around £12 per month.
As colder weather approaches, James Elston of EcoHappy has offered advice on how to save on energy bills. To minimise energy costs in the kitchen, Elston suggests being mindful of kettle usage and only boiling the necessary amount of water, which could save around £11 yearly. Additionally, he recommends using dishwashers efficiently and reducing their usage to save approximately £13 annually.
Elston also emphasises the importance of heat conservation techniques such as keeping curtains closed to retain warmth and switching off standby modes to save about £55 per year. He advises adjusting radiator valves for room-specific heating instead of using electric heaters for additional savings. Turning off unnecessary lights could save around £20 annually, and ensuring proper home insulation can prevent heat loss.
Moreover, Elston suggests using cooler wash cycles to economise on utility appliances, highlighting that a 30-degree cycle can save around £27 yearly compared to higher temperatures. By following these simple tips, households can potentially mitigate the impact of the energy price cap on their bills and save money on energy consumption.
