Court Hears BBC Commentator’s Daughter Tied to Chair and Shot with Crossbow
The daughter of a BBC commentator was tied to a chair in a harrowing incident where she and her sister were shot with a crossbow, and their mother suffered multiple stab wounds, a court has been told. Kyle Clifford appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court and is set to face further proceedings at the Royal Courts of Justice. The traumatic event took place in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on July 9.
Clifford, charged with three counts of murder, false imprisonment, and possession of offensive weapons including a crossbow and a 10-inch butcher’s knife, has been remanded in custody pending the upcoming court appearance. The victims identified were Carol Hunt, 61, wife of BBC racing commentator John Hunt, and their daughters, Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, all found fatally injured at their home in Ashlyn Close.
Louise was discovered tied to a chair by responding officers. The horrific incident involved the shooting of Hannah and Louise with a crossbow, while their mother, Carol, was stabbed and sustained multiple injuries. Hannah managed to contact the police, expressing fear for her life alongside her sister and mother.
The Chief Magistrate, district judge Paul Goldspring, conveyed to Clifford the grave nature of the charges against him, including three counts of murder, false imprisonment, and possession of weapons. The case, deemed suitable for the Crown Court, prompted Clifford’s remand in custody while awaiting further legal proceedings at the Royal Courts of Justice.
The accused, Clifford, faces allegations of murdering Hannah Hunt, Carol Hunt, and Louise Hunt in Bushey on July 9. The charges include possession of a butcher’s knife and a crossbow, in addition to false imprisonment. Clifford, residing in Enfield, north London, had been receiving treatment for injuries before his arrest on July 10, according to Hertfordshire Police.
John Hunt, grieving husband and father, expressed profound devastation following the tragic events. He and his daughter Amy issued a heartfelt statement reflecting their unimaginable grief in the wake of the unfathomable loss.
