A former military man has shared how the unexpected hobby of nude yoga helped him cope with a cancer diagnosis. Ricky Gigout, aged 54, served in the military for 16 years, seeing action in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. After his retirement due to health issues, he faced a diagnosis of lymphoma. Despite undergoing treatments, Ricky found solace in naked yoga, particularly a type known as True Naked Yoga, which focuses on poses and stretches. He credits the discipline of yoga with helping his recovery and overall health.
Initially shocked by the diagnosis, Ricky faced a series of medical interventions to combat the cancer. While his condition is deemed incurable, he remains committed to his practice of yoga. Describing how yoga grounds and energises him through the challenges, Ricky highlights the individual effort and resilience it fosters. He explains that yoga, unlike traditional military training, offers encouragement and personal growth rather than competition.
Embracing the practice of naked yoga was a private joy for Ricky, which he hid during his military service due to fears of judgment. Since then, he has become more open about his preference for nudity. Ricky believes there is nothing inappropriate about enjoying naked yoga and hopes to challenge stereotypes around this form of exercise. Studying history in the US, Ricky now attends daily classes of naked yoga, finding liberation in being true to himself and his unique relationship with clothing and nudity.
Despite ongoing health uncertainties, Ricky remains focused on the present and the positive impact of yoga on his wellbeing. He advocates for the freedom to engage in activities that bring comfort and joy. Ricky’s story serves as a testament to the healing power of mindfulness practices like yoga, which can offer support during times of physical and emotional challenges.
