A young speeding driver has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after causing a fatal three-car collision in Nottinghamshire, resulting in the death of his best friend. William Martin was driving at 87mph on a 60mph-limit road when his car collided with a Toyota, killing his friend Adam Sissons and injuring himself and two others. The collision occurred when Martin crossed to the wrong side of the road to overtake slower-moving traffic, causing his car to overturn into a ditch.
Nottinghamshire Police described the incident as tragic, highlighting the devastating consequences of dangerous driving. The court heard that the collision took place on the A614 Blyth Road in Ollerton village on September 8, 2023. Mr. Sissons was declared dead at the scene, while other passengers in both vehicles sustained serious injuries, including fractures and requiring surgery.
Martin claimed that his dangerous driving was due to feeling pressured by a Porsche behind him, but evidence showed the Porsche was not closely following him. Martin pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injuries to others. Apart from the prison sentence, he was banned from driving for 13 years.
