A drug dealer in Cardiff was caught disposing of white powder during a police raid at his house. Sambou Kassama, 27, was found in possession of crack cocaine and heroin, along with burner phones used to advertise drugs to multiple customers. The police raided Kassama’s home on July 4 and witnessed him throwing white powder out of a bedroom window before attempting to hide in a neighbour’s garden.
During a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Kassama was apprehended by the police with packages of heroin worth £30 and £20 each, as well as crack cocaine valued at £230. Various items seized from the property included digital scales with residue, cannabis, a flick knife, a machete, pepper spray, and £750 in cash.
Prosecutor Byron Broadstock disclosed that the burner phones contained messages advertising the sale of drugs to hundreds of customers across Cardiff, London, Birmingham, and Manchester. Kassama pleaded guilty to possession and supply of Class A drugs, as well as possession of Class B drugs.
In his mitigation, Kassama’s lawyer mentioned his client’s difficult circumstances after he arrived in the UK from Gambia. Facing revoked indefinite leave and unable to work or study, Kassama resorted to drug dealing to repay debts from a previous conviction. Despite expressing a desire to retrain as a mechanic, Kassama faces possible deportation.
Recorder Alyn Eynon-Evans sentenced Kassama to 52 months in prison, with half to be served in custody and the rest on licence. The case highlights the consequences of drug dealing and the challenges faced by individuals in such situations.
