Wetherspoon Puts 10 Pubs up for Sale
Regulars at Wetherspoons across the UK may want to check if their local pub is among the 10 venues currently up for sale. The pub chain J D Wetherspoon has listed these 10 sites on the market, including notable locations in Cardiff, Swindon, and Felixstowe. However, the status of these sales may change, as some previously listed pubs have been spared and will remain operating under the Wetherspoons brand.
One such example is the Thomas Drummond site in Fleetwood, which was initially up for sale in February but will now continue serving the local community. The manager, Claire Buxton, expressed delight at the news, stating, “We look forward to serving the Fleetwood community for many more years to come.”
The following Wetherspoons sites are currently for sale:
– The Pontlottyn, Abertillery
– The Ivor Davies, Cardiff
– Spa Lane Vaults, Chesterfield
– The Sir Daniel Arms, Swindon
– The Plough and Harrow, London
– Sennockian, Sevenoaks
– Hain Line, St Ives
– Lord Claud Hamilton, Felixstowe (underdeveloped site)
– Barid’s Department Store, Hamilton (underdeveloped site)
– Foot of the Walk, Leith
– The Quay, Poole
Additionally, The Cross Keys in Peebles is currently under offer. Notably, Wetherspoon has closed 12 pubs this year, with the London & Rye Wetherspoon in Catford being the latest to shut permanently. Some patrons have expressed concerns that these closures indicate financial struggles for the chain. However, owner Tim Martin clarified that the closures mainly affected “smaller and older” venues or those in close proximity to other sites.

Despite these closures, planning officers at Sefton Council recently approved a new Wetherspoons hotel in Southport, which will add to the chain’s portfolio of 55 town center hotels.
