A university lecturer in Wales has confessed to his wife that he kissed a 15-year-old girl, leading to his arrest and subsequent admission of the crime. Steven Stanley, 46, who was a lecturer at Cardiff University, initiated contact with the victim on social media in the mid-2000s, ultimately meeting her in Bute Park. The prosecution detailed how Stanley was investigated by the university for inappropriate relationships with students. His wife discovered an online ad titled “BDSM student-teacher daddy-daughter generation Z” and his encounter with the young girl, prompting her to report him to the authorities.
During a sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court, the victim testified that she felt uncomfortable and uneasy during her encounter with Stanley. She recalled how he kissed her on the lips in a park, played his guitar for her at his flat, and made advances towards her that she rejected. The victim expressed the lasting impact of the incident on her mental health and ability to trust others. In response, Stanley pleaded guilty to causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
In court, Stanley received a 24-month community order, 150 hours of unpaid work, and a rehabilitation activity requirement.
