Sir Andy Murray Refutes Strictly Come Dancing Rumours
Tennis legend Sir Andy Murray has dismissed speculations about his involvement in the popular show, Strictly Come Dancing. The 37-year-old, who retired from professional tennis last year, made it clear to the PA news agency that he will not be participating in the dance competition. However, he hinted that his brother, Jamie Murray, a professional tennis player, might be interested in taking part. Sir Andy expressed his views on the matter while attending the BMW PGA Championship Pro-AM in Surrey on Wednesday.
In response to questions about his potential appearance on Strictly, Sir Andy stated, “That’s highly unlikely. Don’t know what my brother will be doing. But it certainly won’t be me, that’s for sure.” Their mother, Judy Murray, was previously a contestant on the show during its 12th series but was eliminated in week eight at Blackpool Tower after dancing a Viennese Waltz to Let’s Go Fly A Kite from Mary Poppins.
The current lineup of Strictly contestants features notable figures such as Miranda actress Sarah Hadland, X Factor winner Shayne Ward, Love Island star Tasha Ghouri, Gladiator and Olympian Montell Douglas, EastEnders’ Jamie Borthwick, Olympian Tom Dean, and Morning Live resident doctor Punam Krishan. Other participants include former England footballer Paul Merson, Olympic hockey gold medallist Sam Quek, comedian Chris McCausland, opera singer Wynne Evans, DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles, JLS star JB Gill, singer Toyah Willcox, and reality TV star Pete Wicks.
BBC director general Tim Davie mentioned that the corporation is near the conclusion of its investigation into abuse allegations related to the show. This investigation was initiated following accusations made by former dancer partner Amanda Abbington against professional dancer Giovanni Pernice. Pernice has denied the allegations, and fellow dancer Graziano Di Prima has subsequently left the show.
The developments regarding Sir Andy Murray’s stance on Strictly Come Dancing, coupled with the ongoing investigation into abuse allegations, shed light on the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the popular BBC programme.
