Cardiff International Pool and Gym has been closed until the start of next week due to a major issue uncovered after a power failure. The complex in Cardiff Bay suffered a power outage on Wednesday and has remained shut since. Parkwood Leisure, the operator of the centre, stated that essential “infrastructure work” needs to be completed for the facility to reopen safely.
The closure came suddenly following the loss of power, with contractors working on-site since then. There are concerns that the closure may extend into the weekend. A spokesperson mentioned that additional infrastructure work is necessary, and the centre is not expected to resume operations until early next week. Customers have been advised to stay updated as more detailed information regarding the reopening timeline is expected soon.
Parkwood Leisure acknowledged the inconvenience caused to customers and confirmed their focus on providing alternative options, such as using Penarth Leisure Centre. Some patrons expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of communication around the closure. One customer shared disappointment after arriving for a scheduled swim that was impossible due to the closure. Additionally, there were complaints about the absence of updates for members, particularly those involved in children’s swimming lessons.
While efforts are being made to resolve the issue promptly, the closure was described as not being taken lightly. Parkwood Leisure emphasised their commitment to ensuring the safety of customers before resuming operations and promised to keep customers informed on any developments.
