A British couple tragically lost their lives in Majorca after being swept away by a flash flood. Sarah Thompson and her boyfriend Alexander Barrett’s bodies were found following a search and rescue operation by Spanish authorities. The couple, believed to be from Greater Manchester, were caught in the aftermath of a storm that hit the region on September 3. Miss Thompson’s body was discovered on September 4, with Mr Barrett’s found two days later on September 6. Tributes poured in for them, with friends and former colleagues remembering their kind nature and love for climbing. According to reports, the couple was on a trail in a small canyon leading to the sea when the flash flood occurred. Spain’s Civil Guard conducted a search near the Torrent de Pareis canyon in the Tramuntana mountains, where the bodies were found. The Balearic Islands and a significant part of Spain’s eastern coast were on alert due to severe weather conditions with strong winds and heavy rains around that time.
Friends and family have planned a memorial for Sarah and Alexander in Stockport’s Woodbank and Vernon Park to remember and honour their lives.
