Schoolboy told ‘run or we’ll stab you’ by bike thieves who took his bike

A schoolboy in Wales found himself in a terrifying situation when he was accosted by bike thieves on his way home from the gym. The 15-year-old was forced to hand over his bike after being threatened with a knife by two assailants believed to be in their 20s. The thieves menacingly told him, “your life is worth more than this bike,” before ordering him to run to avoid being stabbed.

The teenage victim’s mother, Sam Hughes, shared the distressing details of her son’s ordeal, noting that he was visibly shaken as he recounted the event. The incident took place as the boy and his friend were walking home, having just turned onto Weld Road near The Fishermen’s Rest pub in Southport. They encountered two boys of similar height, believed to be in their 20s, who demanded the victim’s bike.

One of the thieves grabbed the handlebars of the bike while the other made a threatening gesture, prompting the victim to get off his bike. Subsequently, one of the assailants rode off on the stolen bike, while the other pushed the victim to the ground, warning him to run or face being stabbed. The victim and his friend fled, sought refuge in a nearby garden, and phoned for emergency assistance.

Sam Hughes described her son as being in a state of shock and fear, highlighting the traumatic impact of the incident on him. She expressed gratitude that her son complied with the thieves’ demands and did not resist, ultimately prioritising his safety. Merseyside Police are appealing for information regarding the robbery, describing the suspects as two white males in their early 20s who made off with the stolen bike towards Rotten Row.

Detective Inspector Paul McVeigh emphasised the seriousness of the incident, noting the psychological impact on the victims despite no physical harm being inflicted.
