Thousands of food enthusiasts descended upon Abergavenny on Saturday, September 21, to kick off the town’s annual food festival. Highlighting culinary delights from across Wales and beyond, stallholders such as Alex Gooch and La Grande Bouffe were among the 190 exhibitors and caterers. Set against the backdrop of Abergavenny Castle, the festival spanned six venues within the town centre, offering guest chef demonstrations, cooking-over-fire sessions, talks, debates, and children’s activities in the castle grounds.
In its 26th year, the not-for-profit event returned for a weekend of gastronomic celebration on September 21 and 22. Day one featured showcases by chef Dina Macki, presenting her new recipe book Bahari, and fire-cook specialists Sam Evans and Shauna Guinn of Hangfire BBQ. Additionally, a chef demonstration by Chris Harrod of The Whitebrook restaurant in Monmouth delighted attendees.
Amid clear skies, attendees explored a wide array of dishes and beverages while enjoying the festival’s various offerings. From cooking demonstrations to family-friendly activities, there was something for everyone. Local cafes bustled with visitors as they savoured the culinary delights on offer at this renowned event.
Despite forecasts of heavy rain, festival-goers were met with settled weather, enhancing the experience against the stunning backdrop of the castle grounds. Visitors were seen relishing the delicious fare, enjoying drinks, and capturing memorable moments with friends and family.
