A pensioner’s house in Wales was destroyed by lightning strikes over the weekend as an amber weather warning began, according to Wales Online. The Met Office issued warnings of plunging temperatures and heavy rainfall accumulating up to 120mm in certain areas.
The incident occurred on Bambury Street in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs., where a bolt of lightning hit a semi-detached house, causing a massive explosion. Emergency services responded by evacuating neighbours and establishing a cordon around the property. A nearby security camera captured the dramatic moment of the strike that lit up the sky and led to an explosion with orange smoke rising from the roof.
The property, reportedly owned by a 79-year-old woman, sustained serious damage, leaving her homeless. A fundraising campaign on GoFundMe was set up by Hayley Johnson to assist the elderly woman in repairing her now flooded and damaged home. The campaign has already raised nearly £2,000 of its £10,000 target.
Additionally, an amber weather warning for heavy rain was issued across parts of England, with forecasts predicting over a month’s worth of rain to fall in affected areas on Monday. The UK experienced thunder, lightning, and hail over the weekend, marking the start of autumn with the autumn equinox on Sunday.

Bedfordshire Police urged residents to only contact emergency services for immediate threats, with 13 flood warnings issued for England by the Environment Agency.
