In a series of alarming incidents, four individuals have suffered severe injuries after being attacked by dogs in less than 48 hours. The distressing events began with a woman in her 60s who was bitten by a Rottweiler Husky cross in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, causing serious leg injuries. Shortly after, a 20-year-old woman was bitten by a Belgian Malinois, sustaining lacerations to her arms. The following day, a 33-year-old woman in Maltby was attacked by an XL Bully, resulting in puncture wounds to her hands, arms, and torso, as well as a broken wrist. Additionally, a 13-year-old boy was bitten by a Cane Corso, though his injuries were minor.
Chief Inspector Emma Cheney expressed the police force’s concern over the escalating number of dog attacks, emphasising the need for preventative measures such as not leaving children unsupervised with dogs and ensuring dogs are securely managed in public. Authorities stress that known dogs within households are more likely to cause harm, urging owners to take precautions regardless of the dog’s breed or history to prevent injuries to themselves and others.
The incidents highlight the urgency for responsible dog ownership and the importance of awareness and caution when interacting with dogs. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring the safety of both humans and animals in households and public spaces.
