Maya Jama to replace popular judge on The Masked Singer

Maya Jama is set to join the judging panel of the upcoming series of The Masked Singer, as announced by ITV. The 30-year-old Love Island host will be replacing singer Rita Ora on the reality singing competition. Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, and Mo Gilligan will be returning to their judging roles alongside Jama. Comedian Joel Dommett will continue as the host when the popular ITV show returns for its sixth series next year.

Expressing her excitement, Jama stated, “I’m such a Masked Singer fan, so joining the panel alongside Davina, Jonathan, and Mo – and of course working with Joel – is going to be so much fun.” She added, “I can’t wait to figure out who’s underneath all those incredible costumes, vibe to their performances, and get front-row seats to the unmaskings.”

Jama’s career began with presenting music and sports shows, including coverage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. She later gained national fame as the host of Love Island. Additionally, Jama has presented BBC radio shows, the Brit Awards, and hosts her own podcast called When Life Gives You Melons.

Rita Ora had been a judge on The Masked Singer since its inception in 2020. The show, known for celebrities singing anonymously in elaborate costumes, was won in the previous series by McFly star Danny Jones. The masked line-up has featured various celebrities, including Dionne Warwick, Michael Owen, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment and daytime commissioning at ITV, expressed the anticipation for the new series, which promises to kick off 2025 with a bang. The production company Bandicoot TV co-founders, Daniel Nettleton and Derek McLean, welcomed Jama to the Masked Singer family, noting her passion for music.

The news of Maya Jama joining The Masked Singer has generated excitement among fans of the show, keen to see her detective skills in action alongside the returning judging panel. With the premiere of the new series scheduled for next year, audiences are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the next set of disguised celebrity performers.
