Plans for a new lodge caravan site near Porthcawl have been approved by Bridgend council. The development, proposed by Nottage Leisure Parks Ltd, could see up to 37 semi-permanent lodges, an office and service building developed on the land of an existing caravan site at Rooklands Leisure Park. The site is currently open to campers and camper vans and is situated on a small parcel of land off the A4229 Pyle Road in Nottage.
The proposed project includes the placement of lodges around the perimeter of the site, along with an access road and additional lodges in the central area. Concerns regarding pedestrian safety due to the proximity of the busy A4229 were raised during the approval process. However, officials reassured that measures such as signs and guidance for pedestrians to use alternative routes would be implemented.
Opposition to the plans also highlighted worries about the potential loss of camping and caravan pitches. Despite these concerns, Bridgend council members unanimously approved the plans during a recent planning meeting, with additional amendments for more signage to deter people from crossing at dangerous spots along the road, as well as increased lighting at the site.
The decision to move forward with the development was based on the project aligning with the borough’s local development plan and addressing the need for quality year-round tourist accommodation in the area.
