Co-op Issues ‘Do Not Eat’ Warning for Contaminated Food
The Co-op has urgently issued a recall notice for its Smooth Brussels Pate after concerns of serious food poisoning from potential salmonella and listeria contamination. The affected 175g packs, with Use By dates of 19 November 2024, 21 November 2024, and 28 November 2024, are currently being investigated for bacterial presence.
Salmonella is known to cause symptoms like fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps, while listeria monocytogenes can lead to flu-like symptoms such as high temperature, muscle ache, chills, nausea, and diarrhoea. Certain vulnerable groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, infants under one month old, and individuals with weakened immune systems, are at a higher risk of listeria infections.
Customers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume it and to return it to their local store for a refund or replacement. Alternatively, they can contact the Co-op Customer Careline on 0800 0686 727. Online purchasers should call 03300417737 for a refund or visit the Co-op website to complete an e-form.
The symptoms of food poisoning, as per the NHS, include feeling sick (nausea), diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps, high temperature of 38C or above, and a general feeling of being unwell. These symptoms typically manifest within a few days of consuming the contaminated food.
For self-treatment, it is recommended to stay well hydrated by consuming plenty of fluids like water or squash to prevent dehydration. If you have purchased the recalled pate, it is crucial to take action promptly to avoid any risk of foodborne illness.
