I recently underwent a full body private health check, and the results were eye-opening, pushing me towards taking immediate action. While many of us ensure our cars get regular MOT checks, we often overlook our own health until a serious issue arises. However, ongoing health research highlights the importance of early awareness in addressing health concerns before they escalate.
My experience with NHS health checks had been mixed, with a previous follow-up lacking detail on crucial health indicators. Motivated by recent research on tackling high cholesterol to prevent later-life dementia, I sought a comprehensive assessment at a BUPA clinic. The one-hour “Be Motivated” health check provided immediate results on blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar levels, and overall health indicators.
The thorough assessment, complemented by a detailed report emailed later that day, offered a clear understanding of my current health status. While some results were reassuring with low risk indicators for cardiovascular disease and diabetes, others indicated areas for improvement such as BMI, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels.
The health expert guided me through the results, highlighting dietary changes and the need for increased physical activity to address elevated health risks. The immediate feedback motivated me to make lifestyle changes – focusing on a whole food diet, increasing exercise, and shedding weight sustainably.
The assessment revealed the impact of poor diet on my health, strengthening my resolve to adopt healthier habits. With a plan to retest in six months, I’m committed to maintaining my progress and aiming to reverse some red risk indicators to amber or green by the next assessment. Stay tuned for updates on my health journey in February!
