A tragic story of loss has recently touched the heart of 17-year-old McKenzy Lee-Dominy from Merthyr. Having already experienced the sudden death of his mother three years ago, McKenzy faced another devastating blow when his brother, Harvey, tragically passed away while holidaying in Spain. Harvey, who was only 21 and had been enjoying a trip with friends after completing a painting and decorating course, was found dead in a Benidorm hotel room. The cause of his death remains unknown, adding to the family’s profound grief.
Despite the tremendous hardships that have befallen him, McKenzy has found solace in writing fiction. He has remarkably penned and published three books, including “Cordelia Kills,” a novel influenced by his personal experiences of loss. Writing has served as a therapeutic outlet for McKenzy, helping him navigate the overwhelming emotions that have plagued his young life.
McKenzy’s journey of healing through writing has been complemented by the support of his school community. Bereavement counselling provided at Bishop Hedley School following his mother’s passing and ongoing counselling at Merthyr College have played crucial roles in his coping process. Currently studying A-levels in English literature, sociology, and business studies, he envisions attending university in London after completing his studies at Merthyr College next summer.
