People in Swansea can look forward to an exciting lineup of free science events this half-term. The Swansea Science Festival, hosted by Swansea University and the National Waterfront Museum, will feature over twenty events. Attendees will have the chance to meet robot cats and dogs, discover the secrets of Egyptian mummification, and explore topics like the love of maggots.
Helen Griffiths, Swansea University’s Pro VC for Research and Innovation, expressed enthusiasm for the festival, describing it as a key event that brings the community together with academics and researchers in a shared passion for science. The festival will commence with a pre-weekend feature at the Taliesin Arts Centre, followed by a weekend event at the National Waterfront Museum on 26 and 27 October from 10 am to 4 pm.
Visitors can expect more than 20 free exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge research from Swansea University. The festival culminates on Monday 28 October with popular TV presenter Andy Day’s performance of “Andy’s Dino Rap.” Alongside the free exhibitions, bookable events featuring interactive workshops and engaging talks will delve into topics such as ocean mysteries, electricity marvels, and the impactful stories of individuals shaping the world.
Since its inception in 2016, the Swansea Science Festival has been well-received, attracting around 10,000 visitors last year. The festival continues to be a much-anticipated event, offering a platform for science enthusiasts of all ages to come together and celebrate the wonders of science in a fun and interactive way.
