Gower-based surgeon Suheal Khan has described Gaza as a “death camp” following his recent volunteering trip with aid charity Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). During his time at Nasser Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the Gaza Strip, Mr. Khan witnessed a dire situation with shortages of crucial supplies such as insulin, leading to untreated conditions and the spread of diseases like polio, not seen in Gaza for over two decades.
The orthopaedic surgeon highlighted the severe impact of the ongoing conflict on the healthcare system, with a significant lack of medical equipment and trained staff. Mr. Khan expressed concern over the increasing number of deaths caused by easily treatable diseases due to the lack of basic medical care in Gaza.
