According to experts at One Sure Insurance, a hasty stop in a no-parking zone could lead to fines of up to £100, penalties of up to three points on the driver’s license, and in some cases, having their vehicle towed. To curb illegal parking near schools, Councils have implemented various strategies such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and GPS systems. Civil enforcement officers, static CCTV cameras, and CCTV vehicles are also being used to enforce penalty charge notices (PCNs). Additionally, some areas have introduced traffic wardens employed by the police who can issue fixed penalty notices (FPNs) through the criminal justice system.
Parents dropping off their children are advised to be aware of specific road markings and signs near schools. Yellow zig-zag lines outside schools signify no-stopping zones, with fines and penalty points applicable even for a brief stop. Double yellow lines indicate no parking at any time, while single yellow lines have varying time restrictions. It is crucial for parents to read nearby signs to understand parking regulations.
