A Cardiff homeowner was left overwhelmed after a stunning garden transformation by TV’s Garden Rescue experts. Ryan and Eve, dissatisfied with their new home’s tiny patio and a patchy lawn, sought help from the BBC show to create their dream garden inspired by memories from their Californian honeymoon.
Designers Charlie Dimmock and Lee Burkhill took on the challenge of turning the “boggy” garden into a “California in Cardiff” paradise. Despite dealing with Cardiff’s rainy climate, the designers focused on creating privacy through planting tall trees and shrubs.
Lee cleverly managed the project within a £6,000 budget by selecting younger plants that will grow into canopies over time. Key features included a tree fern and banana plants to add a tropical touch. When the transformation was revealed, Eve expressed her excitement, saying, “I love it, I’m literally shaking!”
The new garden boasted an expanded patio, an oak boardwalk, a water feature to mask road noise, and a stunning pergola inspired by San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts. The couple felt transported to a Californian dream, with Ryan noting the difference in the garden and the added enjoyment of the space.
With a meditation nook and lush plantings, the garden not only provided a visual escape but also a serene retreat for Eve. Lee’s clever design and attention to detail left the homeowners feeling like they were on holiday, right in their own backyard.
The Cardiff Garden Rescue episode showcased how a thoughtful garden makeover can completely transform a space, bringing joy and relaxation to homeowners. Viewers can catch this inspiring story on BBC iPlayer, witnessing the incredible before-and-after journey of Ryan and Eve’s Cardiff garden.
