The DVLA has announced a new service that will change car tax renewals in the UK. Drivers will now be able to tax their vehicles even if they have lost their V5C (log book) and their vehicle tax reminder letter (V11). Previously, drivers had to wait up to five working days for a replacement if they had lost these documents. The digitalisation of the process will allow customers to apply for a new V5C and tax their vehicle simultaneously through the DVLA’s online portal.
To utilise the new service, drivers need to visit the DVLA website. As long as there are no changes to the keeper’s details, they can get their new tax paid for and approved instantly. A replacement V5C will still be sent by post. The DVLA’s chief executive, Julie Lennard, stated that they are always looking to enhance their digital services to provide more convenience for motorists. This latest improvement will enable customers who have misplaced their V5C to quickly and easily get a replacement and tax their vehicle.
In addition to this change, the DVLA recently allowed drivers to opt for digital vehicle tax reminders instead of waiting for a paper reminder to arrive by post, as part of the DVLA’s new Driver and Vehicles Account Service. This service enables users to view their driving licence information, including endorsements and penalty points, as well as their registered vehicles’ tax and MOT status. Drivers can also set up vehicle tax reminders by email and for the first time by SMS text and choose to stop receiving reminders by post.
