A man has admitted burgling a car showroom and stealing four cars, including a Mercedes Benz. Brian Davies broke into the Sinclair garage in Neyland in Pembrokeshire in the early hours of the morning and stole a Mercedes CLA, Audi Q3, VW Tiguan, and Audi A1 after first swiping the keys to the vehicles. Swansea Crown Court heard one of the cars was subsequently recovered but the whereabouts of the others remains unknown. The thefts happened on April 2 last year.
Brian Davies, 53, of Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire, pleaded guilty to three counts of burgling the garage “together with another unknown” when he appeared in the dock via videolink from Swansea Prison – the number of counts reflects the number of times he entered the garage. The hearing should have been a plea and sentence hearing but the court heard a pre-sentence report had not been done because the probation service wrongly thought the defendant was on bail rather than being in custody.
Sentencing was adjourned to October 24 and judge Catherine Richards said the judge on that day would want more detail from the prosecution than was currently before the court, specifically about the value of the stolen cars, about what had happened to the vehicles, and about the nature and sophistication of the break-ins and whether they had been “professional”.
Advocate John Stuart, for Bush, said he could tell the court that the defendant had “little or no recollection of the events of the night” due to his consumption of drugs. Adjourning the sentencing to later in the month, the judge apologised to the defendant for the delay and said the pre-sentence report would consider whether there were any alternatives to immediate custody in his case.
