I tried Swansea’s new £5 immersive experience and it was a real mind bender

I recently had the opportunity to experience Swansea’s new £5 immersive theatre experience, and it truly was a mind-bending adventure. The experience, titled FLIGHT by Darkfield, took place at the Taliesin Arts Centre in Swansea. It involved a 360-degree binaural sound system, complete darkness, and various sensory effects that left me feeling both dead and alive in a simulated aircraft environment that challenged reality.

The immersive journey spanned over 30 minutes inside a shipping container designed to replicate an Airbus 320 economy cabin. Participants were taken through two worlds, two realities, and two possible outcomes based on the interpretation of quantum mechanics. The experience aimed to blur the lines between fiction and reality, providing a unique and engaging experience for attendees.

Upon entering the container, I was given a boarding pass, adding to the realism of the experience. The container’s interior closely resembled an actual airplane cabin, complete with moving and vibrating seats. As the lights dimmed and the 360-degree binaural sound enveloped me, I felt as though I was truly onboard a bustling aircraft preparing for takeoff.

Despite the darkness and the familiar sensation of being on a plane, the experience was anything but ordinary. The unique use of sensory effects, combined with the immersive sound system, created a surreal atmosphere that kept me engaged throughout the entire journey. The experience challenged conventional perceptions of reality, as participants were led to believe they existed in multiple states simultaneously.

For those seeking an adventurous and unconventional experience, FLIGHT by Darkfield is available at the Taliesin Arts Centre at Swansea University until November 3, 2024, from 12pm to 8pm. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or simply curious about pushing the boundaries of perception, this immersive experience offers a thought-provoking journey through the realms of quantum mechanics and alternative realities.

Overall, my time in Swansea’s immersive flight experience was truly unforgettable, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and mind-expanding adventure.
