A secondary school in Caernarfon, Gwynedd, has temporarily halted the serving of cooked meals after mice were discovered in the kitchen. Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen had to suspend the hot meal service due to the unwelcome visitors being spotted in the kitchen area. The school’s headteacher, Clive Thomas, informed parents about the situation through a letter and stated that students would receive packed lunches until the issue is resolved.
Mr. Thomas expressed concern for the health and safety of the pupils and staff, explaining, “Unfortunately, we have discovered the presence of mice (in the school kitchen) which obviously poses a concern for the health and safety of our pupils and staff.” He reassured parents that the school is working closely with the local authorities to address the problem.
Acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the situation, Mr. Thomas thanked parents for their understanding and cooperation, stating, “We appreciate your understanding and support as we deal with this situation. Thank you for your cooperation.” With 875 students aged between 11 and 18 years, Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen is taking the necessary steps to ensure all pupils continue to have access to healthy meals during this time.
The school will provide packed lunches to students while the situation is being fully resolved. The management team is emphasising the seriousness of the matter and working diligently to eradicate the issue. Parents have been urged to support the school as it addresses the presence of mice in the kitchen for the well-being of all students and staff members.
