Four letters could help men’s mental health as campaign launches

A new campaign aimed at supporting men’s mental health has been launched, with the focus on four simple letters. Pringles and men’s health charity Movember have come together to open the Scan & Scran Café, a traditional British café pop-up, to facilitate discussions around mental health and well-being. Recent research from Pringles revealed that almost half of British men lack the knowledge of how to ask someone if they are okay, with 71% admitting they could benefit from more understanding on how to communicate with individuals struggling with their mental health.

The café was inaugurated by football pundit and mental health advocate Jimmy Bullard. Visitors to the café were introduced to the Movember Conversations tool by scanning the QR code in Mr P’s iconic moustache on specific Pringles tubes. The tool offers advice on how to approach friends who may need support. Guests were also educated on the ALEC method endorsed by Movember for conversing with friends about their issues: Ask, Listen, Encourage action, and Check in.

Jimmy Bullard expressed his support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of opening up conversations on mental health. Anne-Cecile Berthier, Country Director UK and Europe at Movember, emphasised the significance of speaking about mental health and staying connected with friends during challenging times. The partnership between Pringles and Movember, which began in 2020, has raised over £1 million in Europe towards funding essential mental health programmes.

The collaboration has supported Movember’s initiatives such as the Movember Conversations programme and Spot the Signs.
