A family who fled the war in Ukraine are now selling delicious sushi in Llandudno. Edvard and Uliana Ivanian left Ukraine with their disabled daughter Daniella when the war broke out in 2022. They journeyed through several countries before reaching the UK, seeking better healthcare for Daniella’s rare genetic condition. Settling in Wales in May 2022, the family initially stayed in an adapted hotel room before finding a house. Despite their new life in Wales, they still dream of returning to Kyiv.
Edvard, formerly in banking, now runs a sushi takeaway with Uliana. Their love for sushi led them to open their shop, offering high-quality sushi that has been well-received in Llandudno. The family’s hard work paid off with positive feedback and popularity for their California rolls. They pride themselves on offering a unique sushi experience, different from the usual UK interpretations.
Daniella, now settled in school, has adjusted to life in Wales despite health challenges exacerbated by the Welsh weather. The Ivanians have been embraced by the community, finding Wales to be a welcoming place. Edvard appreciates the interactions with customers, noting the affinity for conversations among the Welsh. Their journey from Ukraine to Wales has been marked by resilience and the pursuit of a better life for their family.
