Emergency services, including police and the fire service, swiftly responded to the scene. Witnesses reported that a black cab collided with pedestrians, resulting in three individuals being taken to the hospital, while a fourth person with minor injuries made their own way there.
Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene as emergency services cordoned off the area and attended to the injured. An onlooker told the Daily Record about the swift arrival of emergency services and the setting up of screens around the taxi. Another witness mentioned a major incident outside Glasgow Central Station, where a taxi appeared to have mounted the pavement near Tesco Express. The response included multiple police cars, ambulances, incident response units, and fire brigade vehicles.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the details stating, “Around 1.50 pm, we attended a report of a crash involving a taxi and three pedestrians on Union Street. Three people were taken by ambulance to the hospital, and one person made their way from the scene.” As a result of the incident, road closures were implemented on Union Street, Renfield Street, and St Vincent Street, with Gordon Street accessible only to pedestrians. Authorities have advised both drivers and the public to avoid the area as investigations continue.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) also responded to the incident, stating, “We received a call at 1.55 pm to assist partners at Union Street in Glasgow. Operations control mobilised two appliances and a specialist resource to the scene. We have now left the incident.” As inquiries into the crash progress, Union Street remains closed off, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
