Amanda Holden has provided an update on her Heart Breakfast co-host, Jamie Theakston, who is undergoing treatment for stage one laryngeal cancer. The 53-year-old TV and radio presenter recently shared that his prognosis is “very positive” and aims to return to the airwaves by October. Holden, a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, revealed on ITV’s Good Morning Britain that Theakston is working with a speech therapist to regain his voice and could possibly be back on air by November or Christmas.
Holden, who was on GMB for her Big Ride To Work challenge from Cornwall to the Heart studios in London, expressed how much they miss Theakston in the studio. Laryngeal cancer affects the larynx and symptoms include pain when swallowing, neck swelling, and a persistent sore throat. Theakston decided to get checked after radio listeners noticed changes in his voice.
Following Theakston’s announcement, well-wishes poured in from celebrities like Emma Bunton and Amol Rajan. Throughout his career, Theakston has been a familiar face on children’s TV shows and music programmes.
