A young mum travelling with her 10-week-old baby was left shocked and in tears after being denied boarding on a British Airways (BA) flight. Suzy Pope, a travel journalist, was all set to embark on a family holiday to Mallorca with her daughter Maeve, husband Mark, and friends. Despite arriving at Edinburgh Airport at 5am, the family was put on standby due to an overbooked flight, as reported by Edinburgh Live.
After being informed of three spare seats at the gate, the family experienced a 20-minute exchange with the staff before being told they could not board the flight. This left them stranded with their baby at Edinburgh Airport. Options given to them included a long layover in Munich or a complicated route to Mallorca via London and Madrid.
Suzy expressed her disappointment, stating that they had followed all procedures and paid for extras, yet were still denied boarding. The family had to book alternative flights with another airline, incurring additional costs for luggage and transportation to their villa in Mallorca.
British Airways has apologised to Suzy and her family, promising to address the situation. Suzy is seeking compensation for the distress caused and has raised concerns about the lack of assistance during the ordeal.
