Mum shares horrific photos of girl’s injuries after dog attack

A 12-year-old girl sustained life-changing injuries in a dog attack, with her mother sharing photos of the harrowing injuries to raise awareness about responsible dog ownership. The incident occurred as the girl was getting out of a car with her father when the dog suddenly attacked them in Nantyglo, Brynmawr. The family described the attack as happening in a “split second”, resulting in serious injuries to the girl’s arm and back.

Despite the father managing to restrain the dog until the authorities arrived, the girl now faces the prospect of surgery, potentially requiring a skin graft from her leg for her arm injuries. The family believes the dog was an XL Bully type and emphasised the importance of leashing and muzzling dangerous dogs. The mother called for owners to be vigilant and ensure safety measures are in place.

Following the incident, the dog involved was euthanised by a veterinary surgeon. Two individuals have been arrested on suspicion of owning a dog bred for fighting and possessing a dog dangerously out of control. Superintendent John Davies assured the community of no further risk, urging anyone with information to contact authorities.

The family’s plea for responsible dog ownership and the traumatic experience serve as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance around animals. It underscores the importance of preventing such incidents through proper control and management of pets.
