A unique musical experience featuring vegetable instruments is set to captivate audiences in London’s West End. The London Vegetable Orchestra, known for their innovative approach to music, has collaborated with pasty manufacturer Ginsters for a special performance named ‘The ‘Farmonic Orchestra’. This one-off show will take place at the Other Palace Theatre on 3rd November.
The ensemble comprises four classically trained musicians who create instruments entirely from vegetables commonly found in Cornish pasties, such as swedes and potatoes. These vegetable instruments are meticulously crafted just before the performance, complete with mouthpieces and holes to control the sound. Despite their unconventional materials, the instruments produce a wide range of music, from West End anthems to classical tunes and pop hits.
Audience members attending the 60-minute lunchtime show will have the opportunity to witness these vegetable instruments in action and even try their hand at playing them. Patrick Johns, a member of the London Vegetable Orchestra, expressed excitement about bringing their unique instruments to the iconic West End stage, stating, “It’s not every day you hear a swede or potato play a melody, and we’re thrilled to share this unforgettable experience with the audience.”
In addition to the vegetable orchestra, the show will feature Merryn, the dedicated farmer from Ginsters’ TV advert, and a vocal performance from Sea Shanty musicians, The Monkey Fists. Sarah Babb from Ginsters highlighted the effort put into creating quality food and how the vegetable instruments showcase the best of British produce.
Tickets for the performance can be purchased online from the Other Palace Theatre, with all proceeds going to The Trussell Trust to support the fight against food poverty in the UK. Following the matinee performance, all vegetables used to create the instruments will be donated, ensuring a sustainable and charitable conclusion to the unique musical experience.
