A luxurious spa is set to be introduced to the iconic Atlantic Hotel in Tenby, overlooking one of Wales’ most beloved beaches. Plans have been put forward to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority to revitalise the famous hotel, which has a rich history dating back almost 125 years.
The Atlantic Hotel first opened its doors in 1905 on the site of 19th-century terraced homes near Tenby’s historic town walls. Positioned on the Paragon, adjacent to the Esplanade in Tenby town centre, the hotel boasts a breathtaking view directly overlooking South Beach, a well-known Welsh coastal gem.
After being offered for sale earlier this year and subsequently purchased by Crest Hotels, the Atlantic Hotel is poised for a significant makeover. Crest Hotels, based in Bristol and owning nine establishments across the UK including the Metropole in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, plans to conduct a meticulous restoration of the Grade II listed building to enhance the guest experience.
The proposed enhancements encompass alterations to the bar and lounge areas, as well as the lower and upper ground floors. The lower ground floor will accommodate a new spa and relaxation area, along with additional family bedrooms and storage space. Upgrades are also planned for the food and drink offerings, as well as the rear terrace of the property. Furthermore, a cinema room is on the agenda for the hotel.
Jason Hiley, the managing director of Crest Hotels group, expressed enthusiasm for the project, aiming to preserve the hotel’s historical charm while integrating modern luxuries. The planned transformation will merge old-world elegance with contemporary amenities, ensuring an unmatched guest experience. The revamp includes balcony/terrace views, high-speed wireless internet access, power showers, air conditioning, and top-notch sleep easy beds.
The addition of a deluxe spa facility is a highlight of the renovation plans. The spa will offer guests a sanctuary of tranquillity and wellness, featuring amenities such as jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas, and a state-of-the-art gym. Crest Hotels look forward to welcoming visitors to experience the beauty and charm of Tenby, with excitement building for the revamped Imperial Hotel overlooking the picturesque Welsh coastline.
