Skechers confirms it will open a first-of-its-kind store in Cardiff

American footwear giant Skechers has announced plans to open a unique store in Cardiff, marking its inaugural location in the UK. The new store, set to open in June next year on Newport Road, will span 14,000 sq ft, with a fresh store format. The company intends to seek additional sites for standalone stores across the UK. The leasing process was guided by Sterling Real Estate IM and EJ Hales, advising the undisclosed private investor and developer landlord, while CBRE represented Skechers in the negotiations. The site, formerly occupied by Newport Furnishers, is currently undergoing extensive renovations to prepare for the opening, including new glazing, cladding works, and other enhancements.

Aside from Skechers’ development, Cardiff will witness another retail addition as bridal boutique Bridal Eva Ashley prepares to expand with a new store in Castle Arcade. The boutique, known for its exclusive bridal collections, is founded by sisters Rebecca and Rachel Chick and has outlets in Swansea and Tonypandy. The Cardiff store, to be the largest in the chain, will offer a wide array of upscale bridal designs to cater to individual tastes. Scheduled to open at the end of the month, the Cardiff store will enhance the brand’s reputation for unique and high-end gowns.

The expansion of Skechers and Bridal Eva Ashley reflects the growing commercial appeal of Cardiff, with diverse retail offerings contributing to the city’s economic landscape. Cardiff continues to attract prominent brands seeking to establish a presence in the vibrant Welsh capital. With the forthcoming unveiling of these two new stores, Cardiff residents and visitors can look forward to a diverse retail experience in the heart of the city.
