A 13-year-old schoolgirl, Alyssia-Rae Hutton, from St Helens, was left with burns on her legs after an alleged assault where a fire was reportedly kicked towards her. The incident occurred on Blackbrook playing field while Alyssia was playing with her friend. According to her account, a boy, believed to be no older than 12, deliberately kicked the fire in her direction, causing her significant injuries.
Alyssia’s mother, Laura Hutton, described the harrowing event that took place on October 11 around 6 pm. She recounted how her daughter screamed in pain and collapsed after being hit by the fireball, which contained melting plastic that stuck to Alyssia’s skin. Laura shared that Alyssia’s friend helped remove the plastic and ash from her before carrying her back home.
Laura explained how Alyssia had scattered burns on both legs, from thighs down to shins, due to the melted plastic. The hospital informed them that some burns had gone deep into her skin, causing a loss of pigment that would result in scarring. Laura expressed concern for her daughter’s mental wellbeing following the traumatic incident that has now left Alyssia unable to participate in activities she loves, such as playing rugby.
