A family in Wales has been left distressed after the police exhumed their dog’s body and placed it in a wheelie bin, sparking outrage from the family. The incident occurred shortly after the family had buried their elderly Labrador named Flint in a forest near Newtown. The family was shocked to discover that the police had dug up Flint’s body in response to a report about a man with a spade in the woods, which led authorities to suspect potential foul play. Despite the family’s attempts to retrieve their beloved pet, they were appalled to find Flint placed in a wheelie bin with no regard for his dignity or the family’s feelings. Antony Evans, a member of the family, expressed his disappointment with the police’s handling of the situation and called for a formal apology.
According to Dyfed-Powys Police, they were acting on concerns raised about a body being buried in the woods, leading them to locate Flint’s body wrapped in a bag. The police clarified that they had no suitable storage facilities at the station and acknowledged the distress caused to the family. However, Antony emphasised his disappointment and emphasised the need for a more respectful approach towards dealing with such situations.
Antony recounted the special bond between his brother James and Flint, highlighting the profound impact the dog had on their lives. After the distressing discovery of Flint’s body being unearthed, the family sought an explanation from the police, who cited operational constraints as the reason for the incident.
