The Met Office has extended a yellow warning for parts of the UK from 3am on Sunday to 12pm on Monday. The warning covers the entire UK, with specific emphasis on areas such as Scotland, Northern Ireland, north-west England, and North West Wales where disruption is more likely. Strong south to south-easterly winds are expected to develop, potentially reaching 50-60mph inland and 60-70mph along coasts and hills.
Following these initial winds, there may be a shift to south-westerly winds, with the possibility of even stronger gusts on Sunday afternoon and evening, especially in western Scotland. The Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Dan Holley, highlighted the uncertainty of a low-pressure system moving in from Canada that could intensify the weather situation.
In addition to the wind warning, heavy rain prompted another yellow warning for parts of Wales and west England until 9pm on Wednesday, with some areas expecting 50 to 80mm of rain in six hours. Further warnings were issued for areas in north-east and north-west England and Yorkshire and Humber.
