Mum-of-three dies from cancer just four months after tragic being misdiagnosed

A devastating tragedy struck as a mother of three, Laura Barlow, passed away just four months after being misdiagnosed with Endometriosis, which was later revealed to be cancer. Laura, who had recently tied the knot with her husband Michael, began experiencing health complications when she noticed blood in her stool in late October. Despite working in a hospital and being aware of potential cancer signs, Laura struggled to secure an in-person appointment and was initially told over the phone that it was likely Endometriosis.

As her health deteriorated by December, Laura sought help at an urgent care centre where she received morphine. However, due to her GP already treating her, no further action was taken. It wasn’t until January that Laura finally underwent an ultrasound and CT scan, uncovering lesions on her liver. Following a two-week investigative pathway, which included additional scans and tests, Laura received the devastating diagnosis of cancer during a hospital visit with her sister. Her husband Michael recounted the heartbreaking moment, expressing their shock and lack of detailed information about the cancer type.

Tragically, Laura’s health declined rapidly, leading to her passing just a few days after a short family break. Michael described the final days, highlighting the suddenness of her deteriorating condition, culminating in Laura’s passing on February 5. The profound loss deeply affected Michael, who lamented the brevity of their one-year marriage. Feeling let down by the healthcare system, Michael initiated a petition seeking an apology for the misdiagnosis, aiming to prevent others from enduring a similar ordeal.

The petition has garnered significant support, with over 8,300 signatures to date, nearing the target of 10,000 required for government attention. Michael’s plea for accountability reflects the anguish of losing his beloved wife to a misdiagnosed illness.
