Popular visitor attraction ravaged by Storm Lilian
Owners of the popular tourist attraction Colliers Adventure Farm in Nelson, Treharris, were left devastated as they arrived at work to find the damage caused by Storm Lilian. The family-run farm park suffered significant destruction after strong winds battered the area overnight. The marquee used for events such as children’s parties was destroyed, with gusts reaching up to 73mph in Wales.
Storm Lilian has created widespread disruption, leading to road closures due to fallen trees, flight cancellations, and flood warnings across the UK. Despite the challenges faced, the farm park remained thankful that no animals or people were harmed during the storm.
Sarah Eifford, General Manager of Colliers Adventure Farm, expressed shock at the sight of the marquee entangled in trees, having cost the park £7,000. The marquee, which was essential for hosting various events, was left unsalvageable, necessitating the purchase of new ones. Unfortunately, the mobile structures were uninsured, resulting in a loss of money and effort to clean up and replace them.
In a statement, the park mentioned that the marquee required extensive time and resources to set up, but they were determined to have it ready for upcoming Halloween events. Despite the setback, most tables and chairs were spared, allowing the park to resume operations without interruption.
The community rallied around the park, with an event planned in the marquee swiftly relocated. Colliers Adventure Farm is optimistic about restoring its facilities and providing visitors with enjoyable experiences once again. The park remains open to the public, demonstrating resilience in the face of natural adversity.
