In a harrowing coastal incident off Anglesey, Wales, on Friday, three children and an adult were swept out to sea on a paddleboard in strong winds, leaving onlookers “speechless” and “horrified”. The children were not wearing buoyancy aids as they ventured into the sea on a single paddleboard amidst winds blowing at speeds up to 40mph post-Storm Lilian.
A former coastguard at Treath Yr Ora beach near Moelfre witnessed the risky situation and attempted to warn the father accompanying the children about the dangers. Despite the warnings, the man insisted he was experienced and knew what he was doing. However, soon after entering the water, the group got into trouble. Another man, believed to be the father, tried to assist them on a second paddleboard.
As the situation escalated, the group drifted towards dangerous rocks at Ynys Dulas, prompting the former coastguard to alert the authorities. The coastguard and Moelfre lifeboat station launched a rescue operation, managing to save the distressed children and adult, bringing them back to shore at Traeth Yr Ora.
Following the rescue, the coastguard confirmed that they and the police had provided guidance to the family. Moelfre Lifeboat issued a statement emphasizing the risks involved and advising against paddleboarding in such conditions without proper precautions.
The quick response by emergency services and the lifeboat was crucial in ensuring the safe recovery of the individuals involved.
