The people who transformed a retail park’s fortunes now have a major new project

Centurion, the company credited with turning around the fortunes of a retail park in Wales, has now set its sights on a major new project in Swansea. The Quadrant Shopping Centre in the city centre has been acquired by Centurion, a local retail property and regeneration company that has successfully revitalized the Parc Tawe Retail Park. Under the new direction of Centurion, Parc Tawe saw significant new arrivals such as Ninja Warrior UK, Flashpoint, Aldi, and Sports Direct, resulting in a notable increase in footfall with 15,000 to 18,000 vehicles entering the car park daily during the school holidays.

Centurion has expressed a strong commitment to the regeneration of Swansea city centre and has acquired the leasehold for The Quadrant for a term of 999 years from Coal Pension Properties Limited. The city council owns the freehold of the destination, which houses popular retailers like WHSmith, Boots, HMV, Goldsmiths, and Superdry. Centurion’s executives, Jane White and Adam Gibbons, are leading the strategic efforts for The Quadrant, focusing on attracting new tenants and increasing occupancy levels, while ensuring affordable service charges for businesses.

The company is keen on maintaining The Quadrant’s retail identity and enhancing its appeal to both existing and potential new tenants. With the centre currently at 95% occupancy, Centurion aims to address the remaining three vacant units, including the former anchor store Debenhams, which was acquired by Swansea Council after going into administration. The council plans to secure high-quality tenants for the space, with potential announcements expected by the end of the year.

Centurion’s executives have outlined plans to engage directly with tenants to understand their needs and preferences, with a focus on delivering a more personalised and responsive approach. They also aim to introduce extended opening hours, subject to tenant interest, in line with efforts to enliven the city centre beyond the typical 5 pm closing time. Additionally, discussions are underway to bring new retail brands on board, contributing to increased footfall and enhancing the overall vibrancy of The Quadrant and the city centre.

Looking ahead, Centurion is determined to continue its successful track record of regeneration and community engagement, with upcoming events scheduled to further engage with tenants and shoppers alike. The company remains committed to driving positive change and revitalisation in Swansea’s retail landscape, drawing on its experience and expertise gained from previous successful projects.
