In north Wales, firefighters are tackling a series of car fires believed to have been intentionally started. Crews in Johnstown, near Wrexham, have responded to three such incidents in just three nights. Alongside the fire service, North Wales Police is conducting investigations and is asking for witnesses to come forward. The most recent incident occurred outside a residence in Rhosllanerchrugog shortly after midnight on Saturday, August 24.
A spokesperson from Johnstown Fire Station stated, “At 00:12 this morning (Saturday), we were called to another car fire, this time in the area of Rhosllanerchrugog. The ignition of the fire is suspected to be deliberate. This marks the third car fire in three days. North Wales Police were informed, and the vehicle owner has CCTV footage, which we hope will help identify the culprit.”
North Wales Police released a statement saying, “Shortly before 12:00 hours on Saturday, August 24, 2024, North Wales Police received a report from North Wales Fire Service about a vehicle set on fire in the Ponciau/Rhosllanerchrugog area. Those with CCTV or any relevant footage are urged to review around the time of the incident and report anything suspicious to 101 or webchat quoting reference number Q127366.”
