An 86-year-old woman has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in Risca. The incident occurred on St Mary Street at around 10.10pm on Saturday [August 24]. Emergency services responded to the collision involving a black Suzuki Swift and the pedestrian. The woman, from Newport, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Gwent Police disclosed that the woman’s family has been notified.
In connection with the incident, a 29-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while above the alcohol limit. The man remains in custody as police investigations proceed. Gwent Police are urging witnesses to come forward with any information regarding the road traffic collision.
