Former Hollywood actor Jason Hoganson has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for assaulting his ex-partner in public. Hoganson, known for his role in the 1980s film Empire State, struggled with fame and turned to a life of alcohol, drugs, and crime. He has amassed 109 previous convictions, with the recent incident captured on a doorbell camera in Newcastle on December 11.
The court heard that despite having a restraining order against him, Hoganson physically attacked his ex-partner, hitting and pushing her to the ground. The assault lasted for around three minutes, involving various forms of physical violence. Hoganson pleaded guilty to assault by beating and breaching the restraining order.
Defending him, Ian Crook mentioned Hoganson’s previous success as an actor but highlighted his struggles with mental health and substance abuse. Hoganson’s descent into a destructive lifestyle began when he found it challenging to cope with the pressures of fame and turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
In his early career, Hoganson secured a leading role in ‘Empire State’ after impressing producers with his audition. However, his personal issues and inability to handle the spotlight led him down a destructive path. Despite his current situation, Hoganson has been described as trying to mentor others while in custody.
The judge sentenced Hoganson to 18 months in prison, most of which he has already served on remand. The 53-year-old actor, currently of no fixed address, has faced the consequences of his actions as the court acknowledged the severity of his assault and repeated breaches of the restraining order.
