A man from Wales who was working with a news agency covering the Ukraine war has tragically been killed. He died following a Russian missile strike on a hotel, Reuters has confirmed.
Ryan Evans, 38, was part of the reporting crew staying at Hotel Sapphire in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine, which was hit by a strike on Saturday. He worked for Reuters as a safety adviser and had been with the news agency since 2022. The former British soldier, originally from Wrexham, was described as likeable and with a big heart by those who knew him.
Two journalists from Reuters were also injured in the strike. The school Ryan attended, Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, offered sincere condolences to his family and friends. Reuters stated they were devastated by the loss and are actively seeking more information about the attack, while offering support to colleagues and their families. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the strike was caused by a Russian Iskander missile, calling it part of ongoing Russian aggression.
The tragic incident highlights the dangers faced by journalists and civilians in conflict zones. The news agency expressed deep sadness over Ryan’s passing and the injuries sustained by their team members. As investigations continue, the global community mourns the loss of a dedicated individual who worked to ensure the safety of journalists reporting from around the world.
The impact of this loss resonates deeply with Ryan’s colleagues and loved ones, who are left to grieve his untimely death. As the situation in Ukraine remains volatile, the international community must work towards peace and safety for all individuals caught in the midst of conflict.
