A baby deer is currently roaming the streets of Cardiff, causing concern among residents who fear for its wellbeing. The animal was first spotted in the Adamsdown area of the city, prompting calls to the RSPCA Cymru for assistance. However, the RSPCA was unable to attend to the deer due to prior commitments. While it is uncommon for deer to venture into urban areas, the British Deer Society noted that such sightings are becoming more frequent.
According to the RSPCA, there have been reports suggesting the baby deer may be injured. Mandy Tottle shared images of the deer on social media, sparking further awareness of its presence in the Four Elms Road area. The British Deer Society reassured the public that encounters with deer in urban settings, particularly with roe and muntjac deer, are generally harmless as these species are accustomed to human proximity and tend to avoid confrontation.
The society emphasised that deer are typically shy creatures and pose no significant threat to residents. While the UK deer population is growing, instances of deer appearing in built-up environments are on the rise. The baby deer in Cardiff serves as a reminder of this trend.
